Amber, Paul, Mackenzie and Ashley Rose welcome you to Riwaka River Estate, our home and boutique family owned and operated vineyard and home to our rare, award winning, hand crafted Resurgence wines.
We are fortunate to live and work in very beautiful, sunny surroundings, set between two national parks and very close to the beaches, cycle paths and walking trails of the beautiful Abel Tasman area of Nelson, New Zealand.
We also produce wonderful Riwaka River Estate extra-virgin olive oil.
It all stems from the ground. Since purchasing the vineyard from previous owners in 2008, we have been putting all our energy and passion into growing the perfect grape. These efforts have ultimately resulted in uniquely styled Kiwi wines with a subtle European influence, which truly reflect the limestone terroir which is unique to our Riwaka River Estate vineyard.
When you visit Riwaka River Estate, we focus on a complete experience. In doing so, we want to highlight the relationship between raw nature, our produce and a sense of place.
Capable of handling groups of up to 50 people, our welcoming cellar door is open for tastings and purchases, so pop in, sit back and relax with a tasting of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, or Pinot Noir in the tranquility of our surroundings and let the world slowly drift by…
We will be happy to ship our Resurgence wines and/or our Olive Oil to other parts of New Zealand or any other location of your choice, so order through this website, give us a call now on +64 (0)21 277 2553 to arrange your order, or contact us here.
Quality, not quantity is our philosophy. For each vintage, our aim is to produce fine wines that truly reflect their origins, in a manner which is both sustainable and in harmony with the environment: leaving our land in better shape than when we found it.
The absence of irrigation means that during drier periods our vine roots are forced to dig deeper for water, thereby enhancing the expression of our unique terroir in our Resurgence wines, whilst ‘hands-on’ cultural management encourages our vines to better look after themselves. Herbicides are also a ‘no-no’ in the vineyard.
The small size of the Riwaka River Estate vineyard and resulting low quantities of Resurgence wine available from each vintage allow each wine to be uniquely hand crafted and true to its own style.
The love of our vineyard and surroundings will become apparent when you visit us at Riwaka River Estate.
Good oil, like good wine, is a gift from the Gods. The grape and the olive are among the priceless benefactions of the soil, and were destined, each in its way, to promote the welfare of man.”
George Ellwanger
We always like to spend time in amongst our Olive trees. Riwaka River Estate has not just one or two olive trees, but four hundred, on our stretch of land that we call paradise. There are two varieties, both of which are blended to produce an Olive oil of immense depth, flavour and colour – trying is believing! At Riwaka River Estate we work with each harvest, to produce the best quality locally produced Olive Oil.
You can pick up a 250ml or 500ml bottle of this prestigious locally grown and locally produced Olive oil from the Riwaka River Estate cellar door at 60 Takaka Hill Highway, Motueka. Or contact us on 03 528 8819. We will be happy to arrange shipment of our Olive Oil and/or Resurgence wines throughout New Zealand or worldwide.
'60' Blush 2022
The perfect blend of Pinot Gris & Riesling, with a dash of Syrah. Captivating fruit flavours & refreshing on the palate, this wine captures the essence of summertime in a bottle! Another standard-setter.

Resurgence Sauvignon Blanc 2023
Following our fully sold-out previous vintages, this is another Resurgence classic. Fermented in stainless steel, this wine has punchy, tropical aromas. Medium bodied, it is vibrantly fruity, with good intensity of passionfruit, citrus and blackcurrant. Great length and our signature mineral fish make this an extremely well-balanced wine.

Resurgence Chardonnay 2017
Less than 80 bottles remain from this classic vintage which is still drinking fantastically well today. Easy-on-the-oak and light-on-the-butter, the fruity aromas of this wine combine seamlessly with juicy nectarines and peaches on the palate. Hints of citrus, good body and a mineral finish make this yet another Chardonnay we are proud to call ‘Resurgence’.
Total production: 1,221 bottles.
Resurgence Chardonnay 2019
This hand crafted Chardonnay is well-balanced, with equal notes of creaminess and fruit, and is very elegant. Clean and crisp, the flavours and aromas of peach and nectarine are balanced with light biscuity notes. A long, crisp, mineral finish provides the perfect offset for a great-drinking wine.
Total production: 1,689 bottles.

'60' Pinot Noir 2020
A full and juicy Pinot Noir from a classic vintage. Darker in colour, this is a rich and rewarding wine with ripe cherry flavours and forest-fruit aromas and a hint of spice. A very well-balanced wine.

"This was my favourite winery in all of New Zealand. With production at less than 5000 bottles, this winery is a one family show. We learned so much about viticulture and the yearly growing conditions. This winery also produces olive oil and has a natural spring on the property."
"Riwaka River Estate represents the very best of New Zealand wine and hospitality. Paul and Amber have created something truly special here — the wine is world-class, the surrounds are beautiful, and they were a joy to spend time with. I recommend anyone visiting the Nelson region to put a visit here at the top of their list!"
"Welcomed at the small cellar door by the informative owner, and wine science entrepreneur, we were immediately captivated by his comprehensive coverage of not only the wines we were tasting, but the vines and lifecycle of the three varietals growing on the estate. The wines themselves were clever, complex and would rival many in the region, if not NZ. Looking forward to adding to our collection and returning next year while on holiday in Katteriteri. Don't miss Riwaka River Estate!"
Our newly-refurbished vineyard cottage has a beautiful outlook over the vineyard.
